Great advanced stats references, especially for the very reasonable prices
By DaleO
For the price, these books are great. This book covered both theory and practice in depth, from a social science point of view - not necessarily what a math major might want, though. SPSS, SAS and Stata - detailed worked out examples of analyses. Residual analysis, outlier analysis, various different nuances of multiple regression, multcollinearity measures...very thorough, for under ten bucks (under five when I bought my copy, if I recall correctly.

Excellent to supplement lecture
By JB
I purchased this book to help clarify some concepts I am learning in a graduate level course. Excellent job explaining these in another way to help cement the learning. I would highly recommend. Only downside is the publisher's website says we should be able to copy and paste passages from the kindle and that does not work.

Just a user guide...

This is a fair user guide with a poor description of the methology. The part dedicated to the interpretation of the results, based on SPSS and SAS is somewhat useful

Endless Enigma: A Musical Biography of Emerson, Lake and Palmer (Feedback Series in Contemporary Music, Vol. 4), by Edward Macan

Throughout the 1970s, no style of pop music was more controversial than progressive rock, and no progressive rock band was more controversial than Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The group’s imaginative fusion of rock, jazz, and classical motifs with cutting-edge technology, breathtaking virtuosity, and monumental stage shows made them hugely popular on both sides of the Atlantic — and gave rise to a host of detractors. In Endless Enigma, Edward Macan argues that ELP was an important contributor not only to progressive rock, but to 1970s rock in general. Besides a magisterial band biography, Macan provides a comprehensive critical examination of the band’s music and, in particular, its best albums, such as Brain Salad Surgery, which addressed technology's role in fostering societal alienation and totalitarianism. His analyses are so perceptive, precise, and detailed, that listening to the recordings in conjunction with his comments opens new avenues of thought about the band and its music.

At Last! A Book that really looks at ELP properly - As musicians
By Mark D Burgh
Edward Macan, a musician, musicologist, and teacher, wrote an earlier assessment of progressive rock called "Rocking the Classics," which looked at the culture surrounding the genre in the United States. Now Macan presents prog rock readers with a comprehensive book that looks at the work of the proggiest rock band of the 1970's, Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Simply put, this book is a must for anyone truly interested in ELP or prog rock. A step forward from his first book, Macan's ideas are explored, backed up, and explained in a clear way, giving those interested a total view of the musical activities of Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer.

Endless Enigma begins an introduction that addresses all other books on prog: Bill Martin's and Kevin Holmes-Hudson's work especially, but also Paul Stumps' books as well. Macan answers these authors and other critics with passion and solid arguments, even if I am about 165 degrees politically from his stance. Readers new to this discourse might want to skip ahead the discussion of the band and their work.

You should be aware that Macan doesn't just give the usual "ideas" or wonky uniformed analyses one usually gets in books or discussions about rock music (i.e, the Inside Rock video series), he actually discusses the music itself. If the terms bitonality, ritornello, organum, and fugue are unfamiliar to you, you might want to have a music dictionary on hand. I would not say that you shouldn't read this book if you don't understand musical terminology, but if you do know some musicology, the text is a revelation.

I always loved ELP, and always knew their music was complex, challenging, and compelling, but I never understood why until now. Macan gives us the ELP method, or rightly, the Keith Emerson method that stood him well until he and the band deserted themselves after 1975. Fueled in part by boogie-woogie, Bach, Mussorgsky, Bartok, Bernstein, and other modernist composers, Keith Emerson carved out a unique sound from modified stride piano, percussive rythyms and conflicting keys, all the while using new sounds to do it. In the company of a great drummer, and an occasionally great bassist/guitarist, Emerson created a body of work that still moves people, at least people like Macan and Me, the former who writes a tome of this epic length, and me who practically sat down and read it from end to end, neglecting my familial duties to do so. I came away enlighted, even awed by Emerson's accomplishments.

Macan also takes on the "blues-orthodox" critics who never gave ELP a chance, a Quixotic battle, but a noble one. I don't know if it's worthwhile to give space to such proghaters as Lester Bangs, Dave Marsh, and Robert Christagau, but Macan, all too fairly perhaps, does.

Macan reviews all the pre-ELP albums of each member in detail, and then all ELP albums in exhaustive detail, giving an honest critical appraisal at all times. Listening to the tracks he discussed was a great experience. This isn't some rock critic here, this a musician. The difference is some amateur telling about how great a movie is, and a director showing you how the effects and pacing were acheived. Really good stuff, and long overdue, if you want my opinion. An imporant aspect of The Endless Engima is that Macan doesn't lessen the music by dissecting it, but makes you appreciation for Emerson grow. Is it any wonder that rock critics who knew nothing about music hated ELP? The awesome thing to consider is that music this harmonically complex sold so many copies.

Macan makes some claims that are worth exploring, such as that ELP went into decline when Emerson began emulating Copland instead of Bartok; I think that Leonard Bernstein is more of a culprit than Copland here, but that's splitting hairs. I agree, on the whole, however. Macan also, in my view, rightly shows how ELP made a terrible mistake during the Works era (1977-78) and gives an alternative ELP album that would've saved the band. I put this album together, and he is right. You'll have to read the book to get the tracks and their order.

Macan also spends some time looking at rock Organ trios like Egg, Refugee, Ars Nova, and Le Orme, picking out representative albums of each band to analyze.

Get this book. Jump in. Prepare for a ride. Maybe it's my total immersion in this book, maybe it's because I love ELP, maybe its because I'm in middle-age and look back in nostalgia to a young love, but this book has emotional and philsophical force.

Very long, but every page is worthwhile!
By Lawrence J. King
I loved Macan's earlier book, "Rocking the Classics". Of all the books on progressive rock, this remains the best by far. It treats the music from a serious perspective - analyzing the key changes, the odd meters, and the science fiction and fantasy lyrics so common in progressive rock. In 300 pages, "Rocking the Classics" gives an in-depth analysis of the history and music of progressive rock.

Well, apparently Macan felt that if 300 pages is good, then 860 pages must be better. Yes, I said "860 pages". This is a book about a rock band, and it is eight hundred and sixty pages long. Yes, I know that the Amazon.com statistics claim this book is "only" 704 pages, but I have it right here in front of me, and this book has a 45-page introduction and then 815 pages of text.

Why am I focusing on the size of this book? Because it's the size of this book that sets its character. For example, in one early chapter the author discusses the Nice (Keith Emerson's band before he formed ELP). The author spends 37 pages discussing the music and the history of the Nice. Add to that the 26 pages about the first incarnation of King Crimson - and a long digression about the reasons for rock critics' passionate hatred for progressive rock - and 29 pages analyzing the output of thirteen other keyboard-based progressive rock trios - and finally, some interesting thoughts about the possible future of progressive rock - what you will find is that even if you DELETED everything about Emerson, Lake, and Palmer from this book, you'd still have a substantial book about progressive rock in general! Not the best prog book ("Rocking the Classics" still is the best), but a very good one.

But if you care about ELP, this is the BEST book that will ever be written about that band. Macan analyzes every single track on every single album - yes, even the Tracks We Don't Speak Of from the Unspeakable Album of 1978. He showers praise on the great parts, and doesn't hesitate to criticize the bad parts. And Macan's musicology is as brilliant as it was in his first book. Did you know that A-flat Major is the key in "Karn Evil 9" that represents the horrific dystopian future? You might not have known it, but you probably felt it: when Greg Lake sings "Rejoice, glory is ours..." in the Third Impression, you felt immediately that this wasn't a real victory. That's because the story is conveyed by the music, not just the lyrics. ELP's musical vocabularly draws heavily on classical music, and if you want to truly understand their music, this book is an invaluable guide. I highly recommend it.

Unless, of course, you have a blanket policy against buying eight-hundred-page books about rock bands.

A 'must' for any serious music library holding.
By Midwest Book Review
ENDLESS ENIGMA: A MUSICAL BIOGRAPHY OF EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER circumvents most music group coverages both in price and in scope: a $49.95 paperback packs in over 800 pages of material on not just the band itself, but the progress and history of rock music from the 70s to the 80s. Fans saw ELP as a break-taking fusion of rock, jazz and classical elements, while critics viewed them as bombastic and confrontational. ENDLESS ENIGMA's candid rock history uses the band's progress and intentions as a foundation for analyzing rock music's history as a whole and is a 'must' for any serious music library holding.

My Kashmir: Conflict and the Prospects for Enduring Peace, by Wajahat Habibullah

The picturesque Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, for centuries a model of harmony and coexistence, has been ravaged by conflict for sixty years, caught in a tug-of-war between historical rivals India and Pakistan. Now that both nations are nuclear powers, some see the Kashmir issue as a flash point for what could become a nuclear war.

In My Kashmir, Wajahat Habibullah lays out the intricate web of issues at the root of the conflict: ethnicity, religion, national identity, friction between national and local government, and territory. In an account that is equal parts history and memoir, he examines the complicating factors: the Indian government s missteps, the greed of the entrenched Kashmiri middle-class elites, and religious politics and their all-too-familiar polarizing consequences. Unlike many others who have written on the subject, Habibullah gives even-handed treatment to both Indian and Pakistani perspectives, though he rightly keeps the Kashmiri people themselves at center stage, for their needs and desires will be pivotal to any real solution. Now, he says, despite the history of bloodshed and betrayals, the possibility for lasting peace is greater than ever before.

Wajahat Habibullah has spent much of his long and distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service working in Kashmir. His insightful account carries the authority of someone who has been in the thick of the actions and political maneuverings, dealing directly with the players amid the most wrenching turmoil. Being both Indian and Muslim, insider and outsider, has enabled him to feel and understand the competing loyalties and emotions that are inextricably part of Kashmir.

A must for anyone who wants a more thorough understanding of the India/Pakistan conflict.
By Midwest Book Review
Two nuclear powers and an ancient hatreds seem like a surefire recipe for an international disaster. "My Kashmir: Conflict and the Prospects of Enduring Peace" is an educated look at the growing Pakistan and Indian conflict. With a focus on Kashmir, the land that the two nations have disputed over the past decades, being the breaking point that could potentially spiral the world into nuclear war, it discusses all sides of the debate and offers advice and options for peace. "My Kashmir" is a must for anyone who wants a more thorough understanding of the India/Pakistan conflict.

Another 2 cents to the Kashmir issue.
By Inma
An issue as complex and vexed as Kashmir is bound to be viewed through different prisms. As long as the Kashmir issue remains a nuclear "flash point" and Kashmir continues to be mired in senseless violence, bureaucrats, historians, intellectuals and of course, journalists with all their insights and acumen will undoubtedly try to present the K-issue from their respective perspectives. The latest contribution from Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, a seasoned bureaucrat with decades of first hand experience dealing with the state machinery and its people is a welcome addition. In terms of how this book adds to our understanding of the current crisis, nothing that has not been dished before. Although, in terms of the possible ways forward to achieve that ever elusive peace, it does provide some food for thought. From his vantage point, Mr Habibullah has been able to shed some light on various intriguing events that unfolded on the Kashmir stage during the height of militancy and interestingly unravels a mystery or two.The alleged killing of Dr. Abdul Ahad Guru orchestrated by the state police is a bolt out of the blue. A must read for all those who crave a comprehensive understanding of the Kashmir issue.

Refugees: Why seeking asylum is legal and Australia's policies are not, by Jane McAdam, Fiona Chong

Stopping the boats, blocking queue-jumpers, and proving who is a “real” refugee have become national obsessions. Misconceptions about refugees and asylum-seekers seem to be increasing, and governments and media continue to exploit anxieties in the community. This clear-headed book rejects spin and panic to explain what our obligations are and who the refugees and asylum-seekers are. It shows that there is a gap between the rhetoric and the legislated rights of refugees, who have been resettled from camps abroad, and asylum-seekers, who arrive by boat. It explains the difference between asylum-seekers, refugees, and migrants. It shows why asylum-seeker policies, developed over decades, are at odds with legal obligations. With real-life examples, the book reminds us that we are talking about real people and their children.

I'd like to resell it
By Ellis Lawrence
I received this book as a gift. I'd like to resell it, but I'm afraid it's a little damaged, from being thrown against the wall.

Briefly, any argument that refuses to deal with reality is worthless. The reality is that there are 11.7 million persons in Australia's part of the world that the UN counts as refugees. This does not count people in other regions, such as the horn of Africa or the middle east, nor those people who would become refugees if they left their homes. 11.7 million is a figure that the authors themselves quote, and then simply refuse to consider its implications. They are remarkably coy about any specific policy, but they imply that any refugee who comes to Australia should be resettled in Australia. The whole book is an assault on any other policy, and by that fact an assault on reality itself. What they propose by implication is impossible. The impossibility is two layers deep. Not only is it politically impossible - the Australian people would instantly hurl from office any government that proposed anything remotely like that - but it's also plainly physically impossible. It simply takes no account whatsoever of reality.

Instead, they invoke a fantasy: what they call 'international law'. Unlike the real numbers, this is a mental construct that doesn't actually exist in the real world. Law is what can be, and actually is, enforced. If someone tries to enforce on Australia whatever provisions these authors think are law, let them try. Until then, stop talking nonsense.

On the Town: One Hundred Years of Spectacle in Times Square, by Marshall Berman

Described as “a continuous carnival” and “the crossroads of the world,” Times Square is a singular phenomenon: the spot where imagination and veracity intersect. To esteemed scholar and author Marshall Berman, it is also the flashing, teeming, and strangely beautiful nexus of his life. In this remarkable book, Berman takes us on a thrilling illustrated tour of Times Square, revealing a landscape both mythic and real. On the Town is a unique look through the lens of the ideas and works of art that inspired–or were inspired by–this landmark’s allure.
Times Square pulses with life, drawing countless millions who long to be surrounded by too many in the midst of too much. Beyond the immense crowds, the intoxicating lights, the imposing architecture, and even the recent incursion of corporate headquarters that limn the Square’s present boundaries, there is an indefatigable humanity (and undeniable sexual tension) that, for more than a century, has nourished creative expression.
Interleafing his own recollections with astute social commentary, Berman reveals how movies, graphic arts, literature, popular music, television, and, of course, the Broadway theater have reflected Times Square’s voluminous light to illuminate a vast spectrum of themes and vignettes. Berman shows us Times Square as it is seen in Alfred Eisenstadt’s iconic photography, the movies of Busby Berkeley, John Schlesinger, and Martin Scorsese, and the stage choreography of Jerome Robbins.
Conversely, we see how Times Square’s distinctive aura finds its source in a stunningly diverse list of performers, writers, and impresarios, including Theodore Dreiser, Florenz Ziegfeld, Ethel Merman, Al Jolson, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen. Berman also celebrates the unsung heroes of Times Square–the artists, engineers, and hucksters behind the Square’s landmark signs that, throughout the decades, re-created raging waterfalls, blew smoke rings, bathed onlookers in the Square’s eerily welcoming light, and projected the image of what Americans want to be against a surface of who we really are.
Part love letter, part revelatory semiotic exposition of a place known to all, On the Town is a nonstop excursion to the heart of American civilization, written by one of our keenest, most entertaining cultural observers.

CHAPTER 1

Home Fires Burning: Times Square’s Signs

“I’ll just go down Broadway,” he said to himself. When he reached 42nd Street, the fire signs were already blazing bright.

—Hurstwood, near the end of Sister Carrie

Great signs—Bigger! Than! Life!—blink off and on. And a great hungry sign groping luridly at the darkness screams:

F*A*S*C*I*N*A*T*I*O*N

—John Rechy, City of Night

Signs Square

All through the century, whenever people have talked about Times Square, they have talked about its giant signs. Those signs were there at the Square’s very start, and for its whole life they have been designed and arranged to overwhelm the people on the ground. “A spectacular” is the word for these signs. Over the years they have run fifty, sixty, seventy feet high, sometimes a whole block long. They have been extravagantly lit with whatever the state of advertising art allows: with thousands of bulbs, with lovely neon calligraphy, with tremendous spotlights, with throbbing and exploding computer graphics; any style, any technology will do if it can knock us out. I don’t mean to say that all Times Square signs are giants bent on knockout blows. Most are not; most are likely to be much smaller and more nuanced. But the Square’s ecology is such that the smaller signs are experienced in relation to the big ones. The manager of the Arrow Shirts shop said, “We’re just below the waterfall.” They make limited claims on the universe, but “Side by side, they’re glorified” by the unlimited claims being made just above and around them.

In its effusion of signs, New York has never been alone. Early in the twentieth century, every city had its “Great White Way.”1 Most of these went dark after World War Two, when the Federal Highway System engineered the destruction of downtowns all over the country; New York alone survived to tell the tale. Many American cities, especially in the Sun Belt, developed prosperity based on highways and cars, and created spaces with signs as big and bold as Times Square’s. But those spaces tend to be strips (Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico City) where people come in cars and drive straight through. Their signs are laid out in straight lines, meant to be seen one or at most two at a time by drivers or passengers on the road. The deployment of signs in Times Square is far more complex. Here people are on their feet, enveloped by crowds of walkers in a hundred directions, impeded from moving straight ahead even if they want to. The signs come at us from many directions; they color the people next to us in complex blends, and we become colored, too, all of us overlaid with the moving lights and shadows. We metamorphose as we turn around, and we have to turn around to make any headway in this crowd. The development of Cubism in the early twentieth century was made for spaces like this, where we occupy many different points of view while standing nearly still. Times Square is a place where Cubism is realism. Being there is like being inside a 1920s Cubist experimental film: “The Man with the Movie Camera” as a home movie. Signs are the essential landmark, yet generally what grips our hearts is less any one sign than the complex, the totality, the superabundance of signs, too many signs, a perfect complement for the Square’s too many people. Since the 1890s, being attuned to Times Square’s overfullness has been one of the basic ways of being at home in New York. Even the most wretched people can feel at home with the Square’s signs. “ ‘I’ll just go down Broadway,’ ” Hurstwood says. “When he reached 42nd Street, the fire signs were already blazing bright.” This man is starving, freezing, dressed in rags, delirious, one foot in the grave. But he can’t stay away from the “fire signs.” He is drawn to their warmth and light like a moth to a flame.

Times Square’s allure springs from the totality, the superabundance of signs, rather than from any one. But it makes sense for a book on the Square to contain at least a brief historical sweep of the Square’s memorable signs, which will also be a sweep through modern commercial mass culture. There is another reason. One important way in which people have always experienced Times Square, and still do, has been to adopt a favorite sign, to be alone with it, to make it part of their inner lives. This means uncoupling the sign from whatever commodity it was meant to promote and placing it in a different system of meaning all our own. If the sign is a human figure, we can talk: “What’s a sweetheart like you doing in a place like this?” The human capacity to give things new names is a capacity not to be swept away by floods of commodities, not to be reduced to passive acquiescence, keeping ourselves inwardly, imaginatively alive. (Yet often, just when we feel at home with our special signs, we come and they are gone. “All that is solid melts into air.”)

One of Times Square’s most arresting early spectaculars was the fifty-foot-tall Miss Heatherbloom, promoting “Heatherbloom Petticoats, Silk’s Only Rival.” The product seems to have been a typical garment-center knockoff of a high-fashion item, marketed to millions of young women of the sort who passed through the Square every day: typists and switchboard operators, schoolteachers and young wives. The sign was built in the 1900s (different sources give different dates) by O. J. Gude, the Square’s first great commercial artist, who painted in bursts and undulations of electric power. It had an elaborately programmed sequence where the heroine walked through a driving rain “depicted by slashing diagonal lines of lamps.” The wind whipped at her dress, lifted her skirt, and revealed the petticoat clinging to her legs and her hips and her thighs. The gale receded, her clothes fell into place, she resumed her high-heeled, mincing walk—only to be swept up in the wind and rain again, and again and again.2

This sign attracted big crowds, and the crowds included plenty of women. Not the most affluent women, who would surely have stuck with silk, a warm and voluptuous material that has been a symbol of class since ancient times. But imagine seamstresses and switchboard operators on their way to work, or schoolteachers and stenographers going to plays. What the ad promised is something that the New York garment industry, just a few blocks south, knew how (and still knows how) to deliver: cheap knockoffs of expensive fabrics and designs; aristocratic fantasies that a plebeian mass public can afford. It was structurally similar to the electrified mass culture embodied in its sign. It sought and found a large body of respectable women who would respond to a public, flamboyant sexual display, and would buy a garment that they hoped would help them change.

One thing that petticoat could mean: women’s disgust with the multiple layers of clothing that then defined women’s wear. In those clothes, nobody would ever see what a woman’s body looked like. (In those days, too, from what we can tell, sex happened in the dark: Touch but don’t look.) Feminism in the early twentieth century demanded “dress reform” from clothes that treated women like prisoners. But not much changed till World War One, when suddenly there was a lot less cloth around, and then things changed fast. Since then, the visibility of women’s bodies has become a primary hallmark of the twentieth century, of the West, of the big city, of modern times. Anyone who doubts this should note the rage against women’s visibility in all the aggressively anti-modern movements around the world. The Heatherbloom product, although marketed to youth, stays firmly within the traditional layered wardrobe. But the Heatherbloom sign performs a leap into the open. It is a curtain-raiser for the century-long drama of women’s exposure and display. This is “legitimate” theater because the girl can’t help it. She does not take her clothes off; she is not stripped by a lustful husband or boyfriend; she is undressed by the primal force of nature itself. But in Times Square it is also comic theater. Its comic irony is defined by the program of the sign: In Act One the heroine is swept up and stripped by the storm; in Act Two the storm abates and her clothes cover her up; in Act Three she is out in the storm again.

Smoke, Water, and America

The discourse of nostalgia in Times Square often gravitates toward the 1940s, the age of World War Two and its prosperous aftermath. Survivors and memoirists of these years portray a New York that may have been physically distinct from the rest of America, but that culturally blended in with it, and that had the capacity to incarnate it. In Alfred Eisenstadt’s Life photograph of the sailor and the nurse embracing in the Square as the Japanese surrender, we see a historical moment free of the tension between “New York” and “America” that marked American culture in the 1960s and 1970s, when I was growing up, and that was nourished by the GOP. (It peaked in President Ford’s “Drop Dead” speech of 1976.) People who yearn for the Square of the 1940s are often, in Paul Simon’s poignant words, “looking for America.” They still feel vast distance between New York and America today, and they yearn for a fusion between them that they think existed yesterday. They often focus on the Square’s spectacular signs, which they feel performed feats of spiritual integration.

Review
“Berman’s latest—and perhaps best—book chronicles the storied incandescence of Times Square ... Brilliant indeed.”—Booklist, Starred Review

“Like the square itself, the choreographer of this neon Leaves of Grass is a hybrid of styles and genres, of page, stage, screen, and jazz. He is up in the air, like Ruby Keeler on top of a taxi. He is dancing in the street, with Martha and the Vandellas. A Pied Piper, Johnny Appleseed, and Sergeant Pepper, he leads us into movie houses, libraries, juke joints, temptation, and transcendence ... the fact is, I can no longer see Times Square on my own. I am looking at some splendid magical-realist Macondo from inside the head of a man with kaleidoscope eyes.”—John Leonard, New York Magazine

inspiring with a negative note.
By Danyal
It is vivid, and inspiring, but for a foreigner it is full of hard-to-follow references, connotations, subtexts related to the Town. And that holds true for a foreigner who loved and lived the city for couple of years. As for the style, Berman is actually a poet in my mind.

"It was the sound of a good, solid, absolutely British `Damn!'"
By Bernie
I first saw several movie versions of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and always wanted to see the Play. With the purchase of a Kindle and text-to-speech I could not afford to pass up the book.

I was amazed to see that the book started out like the movies with the telling of the blood lust of the French revolution and how one man for the sport of it saved many from the guillotine thwarting the authorities and tricking the sergeant at the city gate into letting him through.

Then I was afraid the story was going to bog down as we took a long time to drudge through a scene in an inn. I did not realize that this was to introduce the major players in the soon to be mystery.

The essence of the story was best said in the book:
"Only between these two hearts there lay a strong, impassable barrier, built up on pride on both sides, which neither of them cared to be the first to demolish."

The story really picks up after Marguerite realizes what she has done by giving away the pimpernels identity and disides to make amends.

Usually I cannot stand flowery writing or long descriptions of feelings. But for some reason this book was so well written that what would seem like extraneous information actually enhanced the tale. I also noticed it is told mostly from Lady Blakeney's point of view.

Once again this is a case of the book being better than the movie. I was surprise to find the Pimpernel poem came from the book:

They seek him here they seek him there
Them Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in Heaven?
Is he in Hell?
That damned elusive pimpernel.

This is a nice edition of the book. It measures 81/2x11 but is very thin. I haven't started reading it yet, and am wondering how hard it will be to keep my place with the lines going all the way across each page, but other than that, I like it.
