It's an easy to read book but has a lot of information. Like they say dynamite in small packages. It gives a lot of information on spiritual fathership. Why I need to have a father, being humble and submissive to you father. There is a bible verse for references for every topic. I loved it.

Strong Entry within French Medieval History

This edited volume by David Potter is part of the larger, six-volume set, The Short Oxford History of France." This particular volume consists of eight monographs by French and British historians covering the High and Late Medieval Period of France, and focuses on political and economic themes, particularly as regards the impact of war and monarchical evolution on the French state. The book is written to a scholarly audience, but is certainly accessible to most any reader due to its clear writing style. Although topical coverage is very good for the focus which the book takes, this is not the volume to consider if you are looking for information on the birth of the University or the emergence of Gothic architecture, both major themes within France for the period. (For those, see A History of the University in Europe: Volume 1, Universities in the Middle Ages and Gothic Architecture (The Yale University Press Pelican History of Art), which cover these topics admirably.) But if you are interested in the royal demesne, the Hundred Years War, the Valois or the noblesse of the period, this book is probably one of the best places to start. Highly recommended.

Of further note...
I can't help but comment on two other factors which make this, as well as other volumes in the Short Oxford History of France series, standouts worth of consideration. The first is that, unlike many books of its kind, this volume contains substantial back matter to support the text. There is a short dictionary of terms, numerous (!) maps, multiple genealogical charts, an abbreviated chronology, and, of course, a highly detailed bibliography (with recommendations for further reading). Every book like this should have these aids, but many do not, and their inclusion here only strengthens an already excellent work. In addition, and this is no small matter, the type font, print, and paper quality all add to make books in this series eminently readable. As you know from your own interaction with books, attention to detail like this can make the difference between a good and a challenging reading task. Kudos to Oxford for such a great job here (but head-scratching as to why they did not emply the same techniques to the development of their series "Great Medieval Thinkers" (compare Hugh of Saint Victor (Great Medieval Thinkers)) which, while containing superb content, is incredibly difficult to read due to extremely small and thin print. I still recommend these excellent volumes due to their superb content, but why couldn't Oxford treat their reproduction in the same manner than they did here with the Short Oxford History of France?

Final Cut Pro X is an essential reference book that will allow you to get the most out of this brilliant piece of Apple software

If you're using FCPX, Final Cut Pro X by Rick Young is essential reading.
It's also a good companion publication to Brendan Boykin's Final cut Pro X 10.1.
They approach the same subject in very different ways, Boykin's book is about procedures and Rick Young's book provides detailed analysis of the myriad tools available, but largely hidden away, in this brilliant piece of software.

The package of Final Cut Pro X and Apple's 6 and 8 core Mac Pro's is superb, and really has to be used to be fully appreciated.
On the surface the software appears deceptively simple but in reality it is a highly complex and very powerful program.
FCPX is very different from its predecessors so the 2 books I have mentioned in this review will provide you with all the information
you require to gain a comprehensive understanding of the program and allow you to make the choices necessary to make it work for you.

Both books are clearly written and concise. I highly recommend both publications.

This Book Is Great For Learning FCP X

This is a great book. I learned on AVID and edited a lot in FCP 7. I originally purchased a different (Apple Pro Training Series) book that was confusing and lengthy. I plodded through the confusing and quickly out-of-date book by Diana Weynand. 500 pages of plodding tutorials that didn't teach me much.

This book by Rick Young is great. Straightforward, and just shows what you need to do. Great manual. I recommend this to anyone working in Final Cut Pro.

Better as a reference than an introduction

I'm an experienced video editor, having used Adobe Premiere for nearly twenty years. I recently switched from Windows to Mac and bought this book to ease the transition from PP to FCPX. I'd rate the book as only 'okay'.

This book is more of a reference than an introduction to FCPX. Normally, I'd have no problem with that approach, but in this case, it left me a bit disappointed. FCPX looks like a great NLE app, but it is built on a conceptual model very different from its predecessors and from other Mac NLEs. I'd have been happier with this book if it had spent more time early on explaining the process of editing within FCPX, rather than simply providing a catalog of tools and keyboard shortcuts.

I'd recommend looking further if you've never used FCPX before. If you have used FCPX and simply need a reference book on how to perform specific tasks within the app, then you'll probably be happy with the book.

I don't have cancer, but when I picked up this book and started reading I couldn't put it down. This is the most fascinating book of any type that I have read in years. I hope in the future the medical community will become more open minded to research done by individuals who aren't out to make the medical/pharmacutical folks richer, but who have a genuine interest to ease people's suffering and cure disease.
